Gerardo y Natalia's Charreada Wedding

Felizidades a Gerardo y Natalia who got married over the weekend! I had the honor of attending and I have to say, it was one of the most romantic wedding celebration. Their theme was Charreada aka CharrerĂa which is a competitive event similar to rodeo and of old Mexico Hacienda.

I also had the honor of making their cake. The couple asked for a unique design that would bring their theme to light and they asked me to incorporate the 'greca' design which is the common scroll you see in the charro suits. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I did and find inspiration for your special day.
Notice the Greca design on each tier. This is the same design you will find in the Charro clothing attire. We added ivory roses at the last minute to bring out the romantic/feminine touch.

Bride liked the idea of adding a couple on top; They are made of sugar and carefully handcrafted. Wanna see how I made them? check out more pictures here.

My sister, Celia and I. We just finished setting the cake.

Charreada Wedding Cake ~ Behind the Scenes

Here are some pictures I took of the making of a Charreada / Mexican Themed Wedding Cake. As I do with most of my artistic cakes, I used fondant (pasta de azucar) to bring this into fruition....enjoy.

I tinted the fondant with flesh tone food color and used the People Mold to form the figurines

Before adhering the pieces together with Royal Icing, I suited him up (sorry, no pictures of me dressing him up)

Adhered the Woman and dressed her up with thinly rolled fondant pieces

The bride sent me picture of her actual wedding dress and I tried to replicate; It is a mermaid style with a Cathedral Veil

I piped royal icing flowers using a very small tip; I did this to give the "lace" effect

A closer look at the "lace" effect
Me in the 'zone' of art work

I made the bride's bouquet using mini fondant flowers

I thinned out the flowers using this pad and sculpey tool

I also made the sugar flowers and added them on the base; not sure how many I made, but each took about 20 min

Since I had no special cutter, I rolled out the fondant and cut pieces and assembled to give the scallop effect; I piped scrolls on the fondant, attached the flowers and below is the final product
Notice the edge of the Cathedral Veil,  I used a Martha Stewart paper cutter to give it that lace effect

For the Tiers, I custom ordered a template design at Designer Stencils; It is the Greca Design used in many of the Charro suits

We spread Royal Icing over the template, pulled it out gently and this is the result

We then brushed it in Gold Luster Dust to bring out the design

This is the final result, a beatiful four tier wedding cake, Charreada Style!

Olivia's Baby "Sprinkle" Cake

This weekend (after returning from a relaxing camping trip up Cachuma Lake), I made a baby shower cake for my dearest friend's Baby Sprinkle (in lieu of a Baby Shower, get it?) Anyway, the theme was centered around sprinkles and flowers with lots of pretty pastel colors...

P.S. the cake was white almond with whipped cream cheese filling, fresh raspberries n blueberries. The Cupcakes were chocolate with butter cream & whipped cream frosting...it was a hit!

Figurine is made of sugar paste (aka Fondant); I used a mold for the head/body, but dress/shoes was done freehand
